A little about Portess…

Portess is an independent family run company that has been in business for over 60 years.

A Mr Ray Portess established the first shop in a small market town called Melton Mowbray, from which he eventually branched out by opening a second shop in Oakham, Rutland.

After working within the business for many years, Mr John Brocklehurst and his family took ownership of the business in 1999.

To ensure the original vision of Mr Portess, it was decided that the company name would remain unchanged.

Today our Melton Mowbray branch showcases three floors of furniture, carpets and beds and also benefits from a large warehouse to the rear.

Our Oakham branch hosts a designated rug room holding anywhere up to 700 rugs, a large front and rear showroom and a carpet department.

As always we continue to pride ourselves upon our dedication to the highest standards of customer service and in-depth knowledge of interior products, flooring and furnishing.

Portess supply bedroom, lounge and dining room furniture, upholstery, lighting, home accessories, beds, mattresses, rugs and more…

We also work with some of the best manufacturers and try to source as much from British companies as possible. Nearly all of our upholstery and mattresses are made here in the UK.
